# Connect ChatGPT

Add Tyton to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server and sign in to set up one website.

## What you need [#what-you-need]

A ChatGPT account that can add a custom MCP server on ChatGPT web. Workspace permissions and security restrictions apply to adding custom MCP servers.

For paid setup you also need a Tyton account and plan. If you don’t have them yet, Tyton walks you through both when you sign in.

## Add Tyton [#add-tyton]

These steps follow [OpenAI’s guide to adding a custom MCP server](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/custom-mcp-server). Labels can change, so follow the closest match on your screen.

1. Go to [Plugins in ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button, then **Add custom MCP server**.
2. Name it Tyton. Under **Connection**, enter `https://mcp.usetyton.com/mcp` as the server URL.
3. For authentication, choose **OAuth**.
4. Read the warning, select **I understand and want to continue**, then select **Create as a plugin**.
5. Install the Tyton plugin. In a new chat, type `@` in the message box and pick Tyton.

## Sign in and pick your website [#sign-in-and-pick-your-website]

1. When ChatGPT asks you to connect Tyton, continue. Tyton’s sign-in page opens and names the app ChatGPT (chatgpt.com).
2. Sign in to Tyton, or create an account and choose a plan.
3. Under **Website it can use**, pick your website, or choose **Add a website** if your plan has a free site slot. Select **Allow access**.
4. You’ll return to ChatGPT. Ask it to continue setup.

## Run the free audit only [#run-the-free-audit-only]

To use only the free audit, add a second custom MCP server with `https://mcp.usetyton.com/audit` and choose **No authentication**. That server never asks you to sign in and can’t start paid setup.

## Success check [#success-check]

ChatGPT can read setup progress for the website you picked and tells you its name or address. Seeing Tyton’s tools in ChatGPT shows only that the URL works.

## If you get stuck [#if-you-get-stuck]

* **The sign-in page says the request has ended:** the request timed out or was already used. Go back to ChatGPT and start sign-in again from there.
* **Your site slots are all in use:** review your plan in Tyton, or remove a website you no longer need, then connect again from ChatGPT.
* **ChatGPT connected to the wrong website:** select **Disconnect** for it on the **Integrations** page in Tyton, then connect again and pick the right one.
* **The sign-in page says “We couldn’t verify this app”:** go back to ChatGPT and connect Tyton again. If you see it again, contact Tyton support.
* **You can’t find Add custom MCP server:** your workspace may restrict custom MCP servers. Ask your workspace admin.

Don’t paste a Tyton server key into a chat message or the server URL. Signing in gives ChatGPT access to the website you picked. Read [connection permissions](/docs/connect/permissions) before you start setup.
